Los tejidos blandos se ven implicados con frecuencia en los traumatismos dentofaciales, afectándose diversas estructuras, especialmente el labio inferior, pasando desapercibidos, sobre todo en niños, por su rápida curación y por prestarles menor atención a no ser que sean muy graves. Sin embargo, las secuelas estéticas pueden ser importantes. En este artículo se revisan las diversas lesiones de los tejidos blandos y las pautas terapéuticas de actuación básicas actualizadas para asegurar una correcta cicatrización sin secuelas.

Soft tissues are often involved in dentofacial traumatisms, particularly of the lower lip, and may go unnoticed – specially in children– due to rapid healing and their lesser perceived importance (except in the more serious cases). However, the aesthetic consequences may be important. A review is made of the different soft tissue lesions and the basic therapeutic approaches indicated for ensuring correct healing without sequelae.
