Una de las circunstancias que han contribuido al desarrollo de la odontología en los últimos tiempos ha sido la mejora en las técnicas anestésicas. Sin embargo, el uso de la aguja en la mayor parte de los sistemas de anestesia dental constituye un problema por el comportamiento poco cooperador que muestran algunos pacientes dentales infantiles, ya sea por corta edad o por angustia, ansiedad generalizada, miedo o fobia. Esta revisión bibliográfica pretende analizar los diferentes sistemas de anestesia local disponibles actualmente en odontopediatría y evaluar su eficacia en el control del dolor y el grado de ansiedad que provocan en el paciente infantil.

One of the factors that have influenced to the development of the odontology has been the improving of anaesthetic techniques. Nevertheless, the use of the needle in most of the dental anaesthesia systems is a problem because the non-cooperating pediatric patient’s behaviour due to their age or anguish, generalized anxiety, fear or phobia. The aim of this bibliographical review is to analyse the different local anaesthesia systems available nowadays in odontopediatrics and to evaluate its effectiveness about pain control and anxiety in the paediatric patient.
